Free chess sets for Suffolk schools
Happy New Year from Suffolk Junior Chess!
In autumn last year, SJC had a surplus of chess supplies and offered them to all schools around the county.
We are really pleased to get some feedback from schools that they have either set up new chess clubs or enhanced their existing chess offerings to pupils.

If your school is interested in starting up a chess club or acquiring more chess equipment, feel free to contact us.
Did you know? In some places around the world, like Armenia, Spain, China, Andorra and Corsica, chess is now either mandatory or a very popular part of the school curriculum.
Whilst chess might not be for everyone, it is great as an option for children, a bit like music is an option in most schools.
In the UK, we unfortunately do not currently treat chess like a sport in terms of funding, but we’re lucky to have organisations like Chess in Schools & Communities, and more recently British chess has received a lot of state funding, but not yet on a more sustainable level like for other sports and games.
One day hopefully, chess will be an option for all children in our county.
