During the global pandemic, most chess events were being played online via platforms such as lichess.org and chess.com. However, during 2022 face-to-face chess picked up again and has now fully resumed.

Suffolk Junior Chess members now take part in a wide variety of over-the-board and online chess events, including:

  • SJC Online Club – weekly Wednesday Chess Club evening, starting at 7:15pm for 1-2 hours, includes fun tournaments, coaching sessions, and occasional special events like simultaneous displays.
  • Local Clubs – find out more about over-the-board chess options in the county from our chess clubs page. Many Suffolk schools also run chess clubs.
  • Local Tournaments – local tournaments, such as the Bury Junior Congress, take place throughout different times of the year. Please check the calendars above for more information.
  • Inter-county Blitz – Monthly Monday evening online county blitz events – an fun team opportunity for all members to represent Suffolk at county-level.
  • Brentwood Blitz – First Sunday of the month morning (10am) blitz organised by Essex Junior Chess – former Suffolk Junior, and now International Master, Richard Pert, provides commentary via his Twitch channel.
  • Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) – some SJC members represent their county in both over-the-board and online formats of the Junior 4NCL (J4NCL) and adult 4NCL.
  • International online events – online chess means there are more opportunities to play international chess – SJC is a regular participant in the Bayern Munich annual Reds Against Racism international fixture.

The variety of events listed here, and many more listed in the aforementioned chess calendars, cater for all players of all levels.

Parents of SJC members will also get the option to receive notifications about recommended upcoming events. Please get in touch, if you have any questions.
