Below is a list of chess tournaments and events suitable for Suffolk junior chess players.  Events includes individual and team tournaments, league chess, coaching and simultaneous displays. The list also includes some mixed junior and adult chess events.

Below is a bit more info about some of the most popular local face-to-face and online events:

Club Events

  • SJC Online Club – weekly Wednesday Chess Club evening, starting at 7:15pm for 1-2 hours, includes fun tournaments, coaching sessions, and occasional special events like simultaneous displays.
  • Local Clubs – find out more about over-the-board chess options in the county from our chess clubs page. Many Suffolk schools also run chess clubs.

Tournaments

  • Local Tournaments – local tournaments, such as the Bury Junior Congress, take place throughout different times of the year. Please check the calendars above for more information.
  • Online East Anglian Junior Team Battle – Fourth Wednesday every month (7pm-8pm) blitz organised by Essex Junior Chess.
  • Online International – online chess means there are more opportunities to play international chess – SJC is a regular participant in the Bayern Munich annual Reds Against Racism international fixture.

County Chess

League Chess

  • Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) – some SJC members represent their county in both over-the-board and online formats of the Junior 4NCL (J4NCL) and adult 4NCL.

Miscellaneous

  • Simultaneous exhibitions – from time to time, a master-level player or chess prodigy play multiple players simultaneously in a face-to-face or online simul display.
