Suffolk off to flying start in online J4NCL
On Thursday evening, Suffolk began their 2023/2024 campaign in Division 3 (Group A) of the online J4NCL (Junior Four Nations Chess League) with a 7-0 victory over Brentwood School 2.
Each team in the the J4NCL online league must field four players. Suffolk’s lineup included:
- Arthur Dannatt
- Rowan Kent
- Amy John
- Harry Hartshorn
Each player is paired twice, with both the White and Black pieces, against a player from the same board on the opposite team. All four boards saw lots of exciting chess featuring a variety of different openings.
In Amy John’s game as White, she quickly won material out of the opening – an Italian Game, Hungarian Defence – after which she executed a nice mate in one below. Can you spot how White wins immediately?
