Suffolk Juniors take part in Martlesham Heath Chess Tournament
Last weekend, the 14th Martlesham Heath Chess Tournament took place.
The event consisted of 33 participants, including:
- Suffolk Juniors: Charles Dyball, Daniel Ciuksys, Lenny Horn and Sydney Horn.
- Some players who wanted to get back to playing chess.
- A number of the players who had never experienced an over-the-board (in-person) chess tournament before, some of whom hadn’t played much, or even at all, with a proper chess set and clock before; they were more familiar with playing on a screen online.
The results are viewable on the chess-results website.
One of the best performers in terms of performing above their rating was Sydney Horn, who got off to a flyer winning his first two rounds and ended up with a performance of 1256, nearly 200 points above his Elo rating.
The tournament went really well and received a lot of positive feedback, with the added bonus of raising funds for Debenham High School.
Two more tournaments supporting different charities/organisations are planned for this academic year, which some of the participants have already signed up for.
